Justin Hess – Project Manager | Omaha, NE

One of the prominent projects that our team in Omaha, NE, is actively completing is a 400,000-square-foot project at Offutt Air Force Base, designed to host 2,400 personnel upon its completion. This facility is powered by four utility transformers, supported by four main switchboards and more than 240 electrical panels.

Since the beginning of this project, our field and design teams have focused on shifting as many conduits underground as possible. This process was spearheaded by our Virtual Design Construction (VDC) team, who modeled all the conduits.

Another key contributor to this project was Prefabrication Manager Troy Savich, who played a crucial part in in producing the duct bank starters required for this project. By utilizing prefabrication, Commonwealth was able to minimize material waste and improve onsite installation speed.

Another byproduct of the utilization of prefabricated assemblies is its impact on safety. By having these prefabricated assemblies, it limits the time the field team needs to spend in a hazardous excavation zone.

All in all, our field team installed over six miles of conduit underground! By integrating prefab and VDC modeling, we have been able to deliver a cost-effective, safe, and efficient product for our customers.

Underground conduit is installed at the Air Force Base’s utility yard.
