Amazon’s new distribution center

Amazon is set to establish a new “last mile” distribution center in Columbus, NE, marking the addition of another Fortune 500 company to the area. Commonwealth Electric Company of the Midwest’s Greater Nebraska team has been awarded the project. The facility will span 49,000 square feet and occupy 10.41 acres in the Energy Triangle Addition along Lost Creek Parkway. Commonwealth is thrilled to collaborate with Ryan Companies US, Inc., serving as the electrical contractor responsible for the building’s lighting and electrical systems for the warehouse, office, and site lighting. Project Manager Riley Fischer will manage the project, and Commonwealth is excited for the opportunity to contribute to a project that will bring good jobs and new opportunities to the Columbus area.

Earthwork began early in the year, with construction continuing throughout 2025. The facility is projected to be completed by December 2025.

Amazon’s impact on local economies is substantial. In 2024, Amazon contributed over $1 trillion to the U.S. GDP and created numerous jobs in small towns. Additionally, independent sellers in the U.S. sold more than 4.5 billion items, averaging over $250,000 in annual sales. Amazon’s investments continue to bring jobs and opportunities to communities across America.

“We are honored to be part of this significant development in Columbus. Our team is committed to delivering top-notch electrical solutions that will support the growth and success of this new facility.” “
