Todd Longnecker – Safety Director | Omaha, NE
and Brett Dwyer – Safety Manager | Des Moines, IA
Congratulations to the winners of the 2025 Q3 Commonwealth Cup: our team in Des Moines, IA!
The Commonwealth Award of Safety Excellence ( “The Commonwealth Cup”) recognizes the Commonwealth location with the best safety record, both quarterly and annually.
This quarter, in addition to the entire Des Moines team being recognized, two individuals were given special recognition for their actions at a local jobsite.
While working at the DSM airport, Foreman Allan Kennedy and Journeyman Wireman Tommy Riley observed a potentially hazardous situation involving a worker from another company on the second-floor loading zone. The worker was pulling a pallet jack while two coworkers were pushing the load from behind. Critically, the safety gate or guardrail intended to prevent falls from the second level had not been installed, placing the worker dangerously close to the edge. Recognizing the imminent risk, Allan and Tommy appropriately exercised the Stop Work Authority to intervene and remove the worker from harm’s way, demonstrating a strong commitment to safety and proactive hazard mitigation. Their efforts were recognized by the customer and serve as a great example of looking out for everyone’s safety.
We are proud to recognize Alanl and Tommy for their commitment to working safely, as well as the rest of the team in Des Moines. Keep up the great work!
L to R: Brett Dwyer, Tommy Riley, Allan Kennedy, Patrick Rainwater
