Andy Sueper – Business Development Manager | Columbus, NE
We’re excited to welcome Matt Helms as the new Service Manager for the North Platte, NE, region at Commonwealth Electric Company of the Midwest. With deep roots in west-central Nebraska and a career built on hands-on experience, leadership, and a passion for the trade, Matt brings a unique blend of local insight and professional expertise to the role.
Matt grew up in Maxwell, NE, a small town that instilled in him the values of hard work and community. He began his journey in the electrical field at Mid-Plains Community College, where he earned a diploma in Electrical Technology—a decision that sparked a lifelong career in the industry. His early years were spent working on large commercial and industrial projects in Colorado, gaining valuable experience in complex environments. Eventually, Matt returned to Nebraska, where he took the entrepreneurial leap and started his own electrical business. Over the past 15 years, he has worn many hats—most often as a leader—guiding teams and mentoring younger electricians.
“I’ve always enjoyed teaching the nuances of our field to the less experienced guys,” Matt shares. “It’s rewarding to help others grow while continuing to learn myself.”
Outside of work, Matt is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys off-roading, hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends. When he’s not in the field or on the trail, you’ll likely find him tinkering in the garage on one of his many projects.
Now, as he steps into his new role at Commonwealth Electric, Matt is eager to build on the relationships he’s already established in the North Platte area.
“I’m looking forward to the challenges of starting a new location with Commonwealth,” he says. “With the culture, manpower, and wide range of services we offer as a larger-scale company, I’m confident we can meet the electrical needs of this community—both now and in the future.”
Please join us in welcoming Matt to the team!
Welcome to Commonwealth, Matt!
