As part of our Commonwealth Cares initiative, Commonwealth Electric Company of the Midwest proudly donated $20,000 to the Miracle League of Arizona in Phoenix, an organization dedicated to ensuring children, teens, and adults with disabilities have the opportunity to experience the joy of baseball in an inclusive environment.

The Miracle League of Arizona was nominated by Casey Huff, Vice President of Operations – Phoenix, who submitted the organization through the Commonwealth Cares nomination process based on a deeply personal connection. Founded in 2008, the Miracle League of Arizona provides adaptive baseball at an accessible stadium in North Scottsdale, creating a safe, successful, and enjoyable experience for individuals with disabilities or special health care needs. Their mission focuses on removing barriers, both physical and social, so every player can participate, belong, and thrive.

For Casey, the mission of the Miracle League hits close to home. “My son Austin plays and has been playing for the last couple of years,” Casey shared. “Participating in the Miracle League has given Austin the chance to build confidence, develop friendships, and enjoy the excitement of baseball in a welcoming and supportive environment. The league has made a meaningful difference in his life, helping him thrive both on and off the field.”

That personal experience helped drive Casey’s nomination, highlighting the powerful impact the Miracle League has not only on the players, but on their families and the broader community. Through adaptive equipment, an accessible field, and a strong volunteer base, the organization creates an environment where every athlete is celebrated for who they are and what they can do.

“The Miracle League of Arizona is so grateful for Commonwealth Electric Company’s generous donation to our mission. Because of this contribution we are able to enhance our programs and engage over 100 new families into the adaptive and accessible baseball league,” said Danielle Downs, executive director of Miracle League of Arizona.

The donation will help support ongoing programming, equipment, and facility needs that make these experiences possible for families across the Phoenix area. It also reflects Commonwealth’s broader commitment to investing in organizations that align with our values and strengthen the communities where our employees live and work.

Through Commonwealth Cares, employees are empowered to nominate causes that matter most to them, ensuring our giving is both meaningful and personal. The Miracle League of Arizona is a powerful example of how one employee’s story can help create lasting impact for an entire community.
