Work is underway at the new Columbus Community Hospital Cancer Center.
Commonwealth Electric Company of the Midwest (CECM) is proud to be the electrical contractor for the new Cancer Center at Columbus Community Hospital — a project that represents a major step forward in regional healthcare. Partnering with JE Dunn as the General Contractor, our team is delivering the electrical infrastructure that will power a facility designed to provide comprehensive, compassionate cancer care.
This 25,000-square-foot center will bring together advanced treatment technologies and patient-focused services under one roof. CECM is responsible for the complete electrical scope, including power distribution, lighting systems, life safety, and support for specialized medical equipment. Our work ensures seamless integration of critical systems such as the linear accelerator, PET/CT imaging, and a USP 797/800-compliant pharmacy.
Leading the project for CECM is Project Manager Carter Abels, with support from Foreman Tyler Hellbusch. Their leadership and expertise are instrumental in coordinating the complex electrical systems and maintaining the high standards required for a healthcare environment.
One of the most technically demanding aspects of the project is the construction of the LINAC vault, which requires precise coordination and installation of electrical systems within heavily shielded concrete walls. Our team is also supporting the facility’s geothermal heating and cooling system, which includes 72 vertical wells — a sustainable solution that aligns with the hospital’s long-term energy goals.
Throughout the project, CECM has worked closely with JE Dunn and the design team to meet aggressive timelines while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. Our commitment to excellence is reflected in every conduit run, panel installation, and system test — all contributing to a space where patients will receive not only cutting-edge treatment but also holistic support.
We’re honored to help bring this vital resource to life for the Columbus community and proud to play a role in powering a future of hope and healing.
