Michelle Spence – Project Coordinator
At Commonwealth, safety is the foundation of everything we do. As our projects expand in Des Moines, so does our commitment to creating safe, supportive environments for every employee and jobsite. Meet some of our safety team members leading the charge:
Brett Dwyer – Safety Manager
As Safety Manager, Brett plays a key role in shaping and supporting safety practices across multiple project sites. With both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management, and certifications as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Construction Safety and Health Technician (CHST), Brett brings deep expertise to the team. His philosophy is simple but powerful: “Earning a living should never come at the expense of safety.” Brett is passionate about ensuring every employee returns home safely and is committed to building a safety culture rooted in knowledge, collaboration, and continuous improvement. He works closely with teams to provide targeted training, informed guidance, and hands-on support.
Kurt Loving – Site Safety Manager
Kurt brings both field experience and certified expertise, having worked in the field himself and holding many safety certifications. His leadership style is grounded in respect, inclusion, and authenticity—qualities that help foster a strong, positive safety culture. He uses insight to connect with his team in meaningful ways, leading by example and showing what safety looks like in action every day. “I want my team to feel like they’re part of something positive,” he says, “not just following policies, but contributing to a culture that values their well-being.”
Danel Drake – Site Safety Specialist
Danel holds several safety certifications and brings a lifelong passion for helping others to his role. “If I can influence someone for the better, it makes it all worth it,” he says. “Seeing people succeed is worth its weight in gold.” He is dedicated to building a proactive safety culture by staying engaged with employees, promoting safe practices, and continuing his own safety education.
Dane Hansen – Site Safety Specialist
Dane holds several safety certifications and brings a people-first approach to his role. Dane’s passion for safety is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: “Safety is about getting everyone home to their families at the end of each day.” He focuses on constructive coaching and open conversations. His goal is to help team members understand not just the policies, but the reasons behind them—building trust and shared responsibility.
Terry Rosonke – Site Safety Specialist
Terry holds several safety certifications and his passion for safety is rooted in a genuine care for people and believes a safe workplace benefits everyone. Terry thrives on being out in the field, engaging directly with crews and offering practical, approachable support. He values being a trusted resource, especially when workers seek his input on unique safety challenges. His hands-on style and approachable demeanor make him a key contributor to our growing safety culture.
Each member of our safety team shares a common goal: to protect and empower our workforce. Whether through coaching, training, or simply being approachable, they are shaping a culture where safety is not just practiced—it’s lived
