This summer, Commonwealth welcomed 34 interns from colleges and universities across the country, continuing our commitment to developing future industry leaders while providing meaningful support to our teams and projects.

Our internship program continues to evolve. This year, our goal was to not only introduce interns to our company and industry, but also to encourage them to take greater ownership of their professional growth. Building on the success of previous years, we focused on empowering interns to drive their development and provided incentives for seeking out learning opportunities.

We also led interns through a condensed version of our company’s leadership development program. Through interactive discussions and practical takeaways, interns explored topics such as communication, professionalism, accountability, and leadership, helping them build skills that will support them throughout their careers.

We also continued one of our most valued traditions with our large-group jobsite visit in Omaha, NE. Bringing interns together in person provides a unique opportunity to see our work firsthand, connect with leaders across the organization, and gain a deeper understanding of the impact Commonwealth makes in the communities we serve.

To further strengthen collaboration and peer connections, we revamped our Monday Masterclass format. The updated approach created more opportunities for networking and discussion, allowing interns to learn from one another’s experiences while building relationships with peers across our different locations and departments.

Our most exciting addition this summer was a new point-based engagement system designed to help interns track their progress and participation throughout the summer. The system encouraged involvement in development activities, networking opportunities, and program events while helping interns take an active role in shaping their experience.

Throughout the summer, our interns contributed fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and meaningful work across the organization. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to learn made a positive impact on our teams and reinforced the importance of investing in emerging talent.

As we reflect on another successful summer, we are proud of the growth demonstrated by our interns and grateful for the employees who helped make the experience possible. We look forward to continuing to evolve the program and welcoming the next generation of talent to Commonwealth in the years ahead.
